The insurance industry is the predominant user of the UTBMS Litigation Code Set, primarily for task coding of e-bills in conjunction with bill review. It is at the forefront in looking into ways and means to add value to the code set as a mechanism for comprehensive case budgeting and data management and performance measurement. A review committee consisting of major insurers has been formed, as part of the Updates Working Group of this UTBMS Task Force, to examine how the code set is presently working and how it might be best modified and updated to reflect current litigation management needs of the insurance industry. A survey is in the process of being prepared and distributed to industry stakeholders. Parties interested in participating are encouraged to contact either or both of John Kelly and Bob Mullen at the above e-mail addresses.
